Firefly

Amongst the broad gauge Great Western Railway
A special from Twyford to Paddington
Was then taken upon Saint Patrick's Day
To distinguish engines made now and then

Daniel Gooch made the engine uniform
Needless to say she by no means lacked grace
Her frames were a marvelous sandwich form
Her gothic firebox built steam in haste

She was fired by coke seldom spoiling
Of the fresh air of wide countryside
Her broad gauge left not a fireman toiling
Her brass fittings gave the Great Western pride

A luminous beetle brings to mind two things
The insect of course and a Great Steam King

Mason Allen Buskirk

Here is of a broad gauge engine rolling through the countryside on the Great western Railway. She is one of my favorite broad gauge locomotives. :)

I never have much thought for the broad gauge, 'tis a thing of the past, your words fire an imagination, of things I had not considered in the past.
